Momentum Builds Towards the Launch of AMiE: A New Era for Mathematics Educators
Following the overwhelming votes by members of AMET, ATM, MA, NAMA and NANAMIC to merge and form the Association for Mathematics in Education (AMiE), we have been working hard in the background to prepare for the implementation of our new association.
The Transitional Board, comprising representatives from all five associations, were excited to meet for the first time on Saturday, 13th September to agree key governance arrangements, roles and plans as we work towards the formal merger date of 1st December.
There is a real sense of excitement about where we are going, and whilst there is still much to be resolved, we look forward to sharing more details as the key building blocks fall into place.

Until our first AGM, provisionally set for Easter 2026, the Transitional Board will oversee AMiE’s development. We are now designing the committees and groups that will drive our work forward, representing the wide range of interests across our membership. In the months ahead, we’ll share more details and invite members to join these groups—ensuring that AMiE is built with input from right across the mathematics education community.
As we’re sure you can imagine there is a huge amount of important and essential legal and compliance work which is occupying the time of both the staff and trustees, at the moment, as we prepare for the legal merger in December. As a result, there isn’t always very much to communicate with members, but please don’t mistake this for thinking that there isn’t much happening. As we approach the legal merger in December and across the following year, we plan to provide regular updates and flag the opportunities for members to get more involved in the evolving structures of AMiE.
The countdown to launch is on - and with it, the start of an exciting new chapter for our community.

AMET provides a community where members can network, share ideas and discuss issues, particularly in the context of new government and inspection initiatives. AMET run a series of webinars and an annual conference. Members receive email updates informing them of developments in the mathematics education world. Through AMET, members’ voices can be heard in national forums, such as the Joint Mathematics Council (JMC) and the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the Teaching Profession.
We are the voice for mathematics teacher education in the UK. Your joining us will increase our strength as representatives of the majority of those working in mathematics teacher education.
All current members of AMET will have their membership transferred to AMiE on the 1st December 2025.
